Free Fun Community Events Teaching Kids Sun-sense
Here in Sydney our scorching-hot summers mean that the most comfortable place to be is often relaxing by the beach or in a swimming pool. However, while our laid-back outdoor lifestyle is the envy of many, Australia's harsh sun also makes us vulnerable to dangerous skin cancers and for this reason it's crucial that children develop sun-sense from an early age: to understand the importance of protecting their skin by wearing sun-block, a hat and other protective clothing. Fortunately, these days there are many programs that are dedicated to educating kids about such matters in a fun and age-appropriate way.

This summer, some such programs that will be held at selected swimming pools around the Sydney metropolitan area are the Banana Boat Family Fun Days. For those who aren't already aware, Banana Boat is one of Australia's leading brands of sunscreen, and they provide a huge range of family-friendly products that are suitable for every member of the family, from the smallest child to the oldest patriarch. Although we all need to be conscious about protecting ourselves from the sun's harsh rays, children's skin is especially delicate and therefore burns particularly easily. The fact that they're so active also makes them extra susceptible to sunburn, and to combat the problems that result from this, all of Banana Boat's SPF50 sunscreens have been tested to stay on in seven conditions - sun, sand, wind, sweat, pool, ocean and heat. Their new Clear Spray 50 range is especially suitable for active families who like to spend a lot of time outdoors, so if you haven't tried it already, perhaps give it a try.

Banana Boat Family Fun Days will be heaps of fun for kids of all ages, and the great thing for parents is, once you've paid the pool entrance fee, all activities are totally free of charge. There will be loads of fun and games for everyone, with one of the highlights being a huge twelve metre inflatable obstacle course that floats on top of the pool and offers five exciting obstacles to conquer, culminating with a super water slide right at the end. In addition, to teach the littlies the importance of sun-sense, albeit in a dynamic and enjoyable way, the Banana Boat Sun Police will be out in force, handing out games, giveaways and sunscreen samples. The great thing with events like this is, kids learn so much without even realising it.
This summer Banana Boat's Family Fun Days will be held in four fabulous locations. On Saturday, January 4th from 10am until 3pm the Banana Boat team will be at the Cabarita Swimming Centre in Concord (on Cabarita Road), on Sunday January 5th from 10am until 3pm they'll be at Drummoyne Swimming Centre (Henley Marine Drive), on Saturday February 1st from 11am until 4pm at Parramatta Swimming Centre (O'Connell Street) and on Sunday February 2nd from 9am until 2pm at Prince Albert Park Pool (105 Chalmers Street) in Surry Hills. Once you've been to one, the kids will be begging you to take them back, again and again, for more.
In a nutshell, these Banana Boat's Family Fun Days will be a great way to keep children busy over the summer holidays in an enjoyable but constructive way. Living in Australia it's crucial that we all understand how important it is to protect ourselves from the harsh rays of the summer sun, and a fun family event like this is the perfect place for kids to begin. Therefore, be sure to make a splash this summer and mark these cool events into your school holiday events calendar. Who knows, perhaps you'll learn something new as well, or score a few cool giveaways of your own?
