Viking families listen up!

The Australian National Maritime Museum is offering a special Viking themed family fun day, Viking Invasion, on Sunday 19 January from 10am to 4pm.

This is your chance to fight like a Viking, speak like a Viking and play like a Viking with a jam-packed program full of fantastic activities for the whole family. Expect Viking game tournaments, awesome interactive displays, market stalls full of Viking items, and fabulous demonstrations and workshops for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Follow the Viking re-enactors and take part in the Scandinavian games. Have a game of Kubb (aka Viking chess) and test your throwing skills; challenge your enemy with a game of hnefatafl; and build your very own Viking village out of LEGO.

Creative cats can learn to write their name in runes, create a cool Viking longship, an amulet to protect yourself from evil, or a shield for when you go into battle. You'll also be able to dress up like a real Viking and fight like one in the interactive games. What's more, you'll be taught by experts on the techniques of traditional Scandinavian bark weaving and even make your own bag using contemporary materials.

When you feel like a rest, why not check out the performances throughout the day? Be entertained and enthralled by Saga - telling performances and hear about the exciting stories of heroism and superstition. Children will be delighted and captivated by the stories of how Skadi fell in love. Also, Swedish band and dance performances will entertain and enthral audiences with their Scandinavian music and folk dancing.

Another interactive activity on the program is Cabinet of Curiosities- Digging up Vikings where children can explore and discover breathtaking and odd items of Viking paraphernalia including trade goods and armour. And last but not least, don't miss the screening of Vicious Vikings on the big screen.

Child, adult and family tickets are available and start from just $3.50. For more information about this event, visit the Australian National Maritime Museum website and search for "Family fun day: Viking Invasion", which will take you straight to the page. This event is suitable for all ages and no bookings are required.

Don't miss out on this wonderful event!
