Event:
Spend a day with the animals in their natural habitat
Easter Monday (17 April 2017) will once again see the Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary's Family Fun Day from 10 am to 5 pm at 623 Humbug Scrub Road, Humbug Scrub. The Sanctuary is just up the road from the Para Wirra Conservation Park and 30 minutes from Tea Tree Gully.

If you are over 5 years of age, a gold coin donation (under 5's free) will give you entrance to this amazing wildlife sanctuary, where you will hand feed emus, talk to the birds (some even talk back), visit the ducks and swamp wallabies, and visit and pet Annabel the koala, while you stroll through the amazing natural bush setting. The proceeds from the day will go to supporting the Sanctuary and the amazing volunteers.

For those of you who, like me just love heritage buildings, the cottage which was built in 1909 has been set up as a museum contains a local history display and over 130 years of family history. You can join the treasure hunt or purchase cakes, BBQ, baked potatoes, drinks and much, much more. Why not buy some snacks and wander through the bush tracks.

The Sanctuary is a registered charity which has been running since 1905 and all donations are tax deductible. This fundraising day is a key event in the calendar to assist in keeping the work of the Sanctuary going.

Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary was created by Thomas P Bellchambers in 1905 as a haven for endangered wildlife. Tom lived on the Sanctuary with his wife Eliza and their ten children. The Sanctuary today is a haven for native animals which wander freely around the scrub, but is also for rescued animals from the local area. The Sanctuary is located 40 kms north east of Adelaide in a natural bush setting in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

I have not been here for 50 years...perhaps it is time I returned with my grand daughter. Those kangaroos..their grey coats and white tipped tails...I wonder what species they are and if they are natural to the scrub there. They look as though they may have come from Kangaroo Is.Whatever, they are really an attractive species.
