Lasagne is a popular dish with all ages as it full of flavour, it easily serves at least 8 people and even the kids love it! It is one of those heart-warming dishes that you put in the middle of the table with a green salad and crusty bread, and everyone just dives in with joy.

This recipe below has been a favourite in our household for many years. Although it takes a while to make, the recipe is easy to follow. Once you've made it a few times, you don't need to look at the instructions again. With winter on its way, cooking a lasagne is the perfect way to get the family around the dinner table. It is our "family fav", we hope it becomes yours too.

WHAT TO BUY

%%Ingredients: 2 brown onions (chopped), 2 cloves garlic (chopped finely), 500g beef mince, 500g pork mince, 2 x 800g tins of crushed tomatoes (or 4 x 400g tins), 2 Tablespoons sugar, 250g box of dried lasagne sheets, 50g mozzarella cheese.

Cheese sauce: 50g butter, 1/3 cup plain flour, 3 and 1/2 cups milk, 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard, 250g mozzarella cheese%%

HOW TO MAKE IT

1/ Add olive oil to a large cooking pot and sauté onions and garlic until cooked.

2/ Add beef and pork mince to the pot and stir. Break down any lumps with a wooden spoon.

3/ Add tinned tomatoes and sugar, and stir. Increase temperature so it starts to boil.

4/ Reduce temperature and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Keep going back closer to the time to ensure it doesn't stick on the base of the pot. When ready, take off the heat.

5/ To make the cheese sauce, add butter to a medium saucepan and cook until it melts. Add the flour and stir for 2 minutes. Pour in a small amount of milk and stir with a whisk. As it starts to thicken, continue to add milk and stir until all the milk has gone and it starts to bubble and thicken. Whisk frequently.

6/ Stir in mustard and add the grated cheese. Stir until cheese melts and take off the heat.

7/ Get three large chopping boards and position the meat pot, cheese saucepan and large lasagne tray all together, ready to assemble the lasagne. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees, fan-forced.

8/ Using the wooden spoon, smear meat sauce on the base of the lasagne tray.

9/ Lay the lasagne sheets on top of the meat. You may need to break a sheet to make it fit.

10/ Add meat on top of the sheets.

11/ Add the cheese sauce all over the meat, using a soup ladle.

12/ Lay down the lasagne sheets again. Repeat until you get near the top, or start to run out of meat or cheese sauce. Finish with the cheese sauce.

13/ Top with grated cheese all over.

14/ Cover with foil, shiny side down. Bake for 45 minutes and then remove the foil. Bake for another 15 minutes until golden.

15/ Allow to cool in tray and slice up into squares.

16/ Serve up your lasagne and if you have any left over, put the rest in containers. They freeze perfectly for another night.

You did it! Easy, right? It is the perfect family meal which warms up the house and makes everyone come to the table. Why don't you give it a try this weekend?
