A stay at home Mum who doesn't stay at home much; too many exciting things to be discovering in this city...

Take your movies to a different level
Taking kids to the cinema should be an experience the whole family enjoys. Who doesn't like to cosy up in the dark and immerse themselves in fantastical worlds for a couple of hours? We are lucky enough to have some great cinema options on our doorstep and every school holiday I treat the children to whatever the latest release might be. Below are three great cinema experiences for families which I hope you enjoy as much as we do:
• Vjunior at Soutland in Cheltenham is a purpose built kids' cinema which knocks spots off all the rest. This recently opened marvel features an activity area where children can create with Mega Bloks and race Hotwheels cars to their hearts content before the film starts. It has its own candy bar with hot and cold food options and a range of drinks and treats. Inside the cinema you can expect to find some fun seating options such as beanbags and recliners as well as a huge slide which is open before the movie starts and again for a 10 minute interval in the middle. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius – it has taken the cinema experience to a whole new level in my opinion. Click here for details and the latest schedule.
Lunar Drive In has an old school feel as well as wow factor
• Lunar Drive-In located in Dandenong is a unique, old school experience which my kids LOVE. The thrill of huddling up in the back of the car with the tailgate open and watching movies under the stars adds to the excitement of the movie tenfold. Lunar Drive-In has a café which serves basic fast food and movie snacks. It is always busy so plan to arrive well before your movie starts if you're buying dinner. The best thing about this cinema is the price. You can pay for the entire family for what two seats at Vjunior will set you back. The bad thing is that as my kids get older there's less room for mum and dad to squeeze into the boot too. Click here for details and the latest schedule.
• IMAX cinema in Carlton does things on a grand scale. The screens in this cinema are huge and the biggest novelty of course is that the films are in 3D. My children approach this cinema with a certain amount of trepidation because it is big, loud and very realistic with things popping out of the screen left, right and centre. However the overall effect is breath-taking and we have enjoyed some great films here now that the children are a little older. IMAX is located right next to the Melbourne Museum which is an added bonus because the children's gallery in the museum is a work of art in itself. Click here for details and the latest schedule.
