Look within using fairy tales and art
Helen McWilliam is an experienced Gestalt and Art Psychotherapist and she is hosting one of her one-day Experience workshops in Brisbane. Now with a new date 29th July 2018!
Helen is excited to have fairy tales as the theme for her Gestalt art experience workshops in 2018. "Investigating Fairy tales is a way of exploring ourselves, as a lens to embrace all of who we are without criticism and judgment. These stories are familiar and part of our belief system about what we think is ok and not ok. I invite you to join me and have fun exploring together with stories, art and images."

Gestalt is a German word and implies wholeness. When we allow ourselves to be as we are, we are fully ourselves. Awareness is a way to begin to experience ourselves more fully. Gestalt privileges experience, authentic living and human relating.

When Gestalt therapy is combined with art therapy you can learn and discover yourself in an entirely supported and nourished atmosphere. You can access parts of your brain and emotions you may not have paid much attention to before and develop new and stronger ways to deal with the things life throws at us. Sometimes it creates the right pathways we need to learn and heal and grow that we may not have chosen previously. Paths that are better suited to us and paths that will pave a way forward with strength and peace.

Helen practises privately in Brisbane and in the Northern Rivers of NSW and she regularly conducts art therapy workshops for children as well. My kids have been to her art workshops and still use the skills they learnt, and still remember her fondly.

In these times, it is important to take the stigma away from mental health and to treat it as as much a part of life as visits to the doctor or dentist. Learning skills to build resilience and to cope with the ever changing nature of life is paramount to a content human experience.
In this workshop, Helen has chosen fairy tales as a lens with which to explore your inner world and create opportunity for change. Maybe you are in the process of making big decisions or just know that some self-care time would greatly nourish you and therefore others around you. Helen's calm and gentle manner provide the perfect environment for you to feel safe and prepared to explore your inner world and begin to discover pathways through the rainforests of our minds.
