Embrace the silly season! The folk of Fairfield are – they're busy decking the halls with bounds of holly in preparation for the Fairfield City Carols Festival.

It's the second year that the festival has been held. Hosted by the merry people at St Barnabas Anglican Church, Fairfield & Bossley Park, the Fairfield City Carols Festival is shaping up to be full of Christmas and community spirit.

The festival kicks off at 5:30pm on Saturday, 15th December, with a range of activities to entertain families, young ones, the elderly and teenagers. There is something for everyone!

This year the festival will see the return of cultural food stalls. St Barnabas Anglican is home to people from all corners of the globe, and the range of cuisines reflects this. Last year featured everything from French pastries to Chinese dumplings to Aussie snags to Vietnamese pork kebabs (I've forgotten the exact name of them, but I still haven't forgotten the taste! Yum indeed!). This year will also welcome back the ever-so-popular gelato van, which last year sold out in an hour.

There are also free games for the kids, including a free jumping castle, free Christmas craft, face painting, a jellybean guessing contest and wet-sponge-toss, which was a huge hit with the teenagers. The Christmas atmosphere is made complete with a live band, playing hit songs and entertaining the crowd as people enjoy the festival.

As the evening darkens, the caroling begins. Each person receives a free glow stick and many gather together on picnic rugs and fold out chairs on the front lawn of the church. Christmas favourites are sung, and there is even a special international mystery guest for the kiddies to enjoy. It's not Santa, but last year the kids enjoyed a magic show from Fairfield's favourite Japanese karate magician. It can only leave us wondering, who will the mystery guess be this year?

If you're planning on caroling this year and are looking for a caroling event that embraces community and the true meaning of Christmas, don't look further than the Fairfield City Carols Festival.
