Mother's day is around the corner. Stuck for ideas to say thanks to Mum? Either your Mum or the Mother of your Children? Have no fear, advice is here!

1. Make her feel special: you know what she likes. Breakfast in bed, paper or favourite magazine, home made cards, an early morning walk with the family. Start the day for her with NO CHORES! Wait on her hand and foot.

2. The size (or price) of the gift doesn't matter (really). BUT do put some thought into it. Hand made is always lovely. Kids paintings framed, hand made goodies / treats, preserved jams, you get the idea. Hand made cards, gift vouchers for work around the house etc .... let your kids come up with some ideas.

3. Go for individual not commercial. The chain stores will have you buying slippers, socks, perfumes OR EVEN WORSE household - cleaning and coking appliance. BE WARNED STEER CLEAR OF THESE! What is it your Mum secretly loves? Something vintage?
- Personally I'd love a new piece of milk glass (maybe found at the WAC ) or some other pre-owned treasure.

- Or what about something handmade? Handmade on High Street at Annerley has a range of beauties to choose from. I personally love these knitted delights. But they have plenty of other creations available.

- What woman doesn't love some pampering? Two of my favourite (and affordable) places are:

ABuzz Day Spa (ask for Catie) and Apollo Day Spa (which also has a korean-style bath house. The full body scrub is amazing.

4. Food Glorious Food (that she doens't have to prep, cook or clean away). Lots of ideas here, all sure to impress:

- Home made breakfast, lunch and/or dinner, all looked after by Dad and kids. Either a fancy setting at your table, a picnic in the backyard or make a day of it and pack a yummy lunch.

- If you want to outsource, there are lots of options. Most places have Mother's Day lunch specials - where you go probably depends on your budget. The Junction @ Annerley offers a cheap and cheerful pub-style option ($35):

- or if you are feeling fancy you could indulge in the Stamford high tea, lunch or dinner (prices range from $65-$95 per adult and $35 - $65 for kids)
Most places book quickly, so you better get a wriggle on.

5. Why not capture the moment of Mother's Day and your family with a photography sitting? There are lots of people who capture amazing images ... rather than the old school pixie photos try one of the many freelance artists around the place. I personally recommend Kate Wilson Photography . I have only had a head shot done with her, but her portfolio is pretty great & she has a passion for great lighting.

So there you have it. 5 simple ideas to say I LOVE YOU to your Mum. Enjoy x
