The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, one of Brisbane's favourite community orchestras, is kicking off their year with a concert entitled "Exuberance and Passion". This concert features the sparkling Overture to Russian and Ludmilla by Glinka, beautiful music by Sibelius in "Scene with Cranes" and Dvorak's stunning Symphony no.8.

After thirty years, founding conductor Antoni Bonnetti AM has moved into the role of Conductor Emeritus and the orchestra have appointed Brisbane Clarinettist and composer to be their new Chief Conductor. Paul has worked with the orchestra before, conducting concerts in 2018 and 2019 as well as joining the orchestra to conduct and perform the Mozart Clarinet Concerto as a special recording project during last year's lockdown period.

Paul is tackling his new role with the orchestra with energy and vigour. At their first performance on the Sunshine Coast last weekend, the Glinka was bright and sparkling, while "Scene with Cranes" invoked the mood of Sibelius' Finnish homeland. The Dvorak demonstrated mastery and celebrated the playing of some of Brisbane's finest community musicians.

Some comments from members of the audience were,

"Just confirming that we really enjoyed yesterday's concert .... The musicians were excellent, and the program was well chosen. We look forward to hearing them again should they be back on the Sunshine Coast." - Geoff and Coline

Thanks for the info and an afternoon of wonderful music. I enjoyed every minute! My friend and I were so thrilled to have the opportunity. - Ali

The concert is being repeated this Sunday 21 March at Brisbane's City Hall at 3pm. The concert will be performed without an interval and runs for approximately one hour, making it an ideal length for families with younger children. Tickets are available in different price ranges, starting at $55 for Adults in the Stalls and $60 for Adults in the Balcony. Concession and twelve and underpricing is also available.

The orchestra also have some exciting projects planned for 2021. They have been engaged to participate in a series of concerts at The Fortitude entitled "Strings Attached" and will be working with Vera Blue for their first concert. In addition, they are looking forward to the Internation Ballet Spectacular to be held later this year.
