Life after Thor, Chris Hemsworth stars as Tyler Rake, a mercenary for hire. Based on a graphic novel and adapted by Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo, love it or hate it, it's Chris Hemsworth! His mission; to rescue the kidnapped son (Rudhraksh Jaiswal as Ovi Mahajan) of a drug lord (Panjkaj Tripathi as Ovi Mahajan Snr) serving time in jail, from a rival drug lord, Amir Asif (Prinyanshu Painyulli). It's a case of the biggest drug lord in India VS the biggest drug lord in Bangladesh, with the young Ovi as a pawn in a war between the notorious gangsters.
Reeling from a personal tragedy; the loss of his young son, Tyler is broke and broken, with nothing to lose. With no money to pay the ransom, Rake was the obvious alternative for Ovi senior. Extracting the kid for a talented mercenary, is accomplished in no time, but not without action packed ridding of the bad guys in the process. However, keeping him alive is going to be a whole other ball game when the city goes into lockdown, after Amir, who has the military in his pockets, orders them to close every possible escape route. Rake has to find a way amidst traitors, kids with guns, and other obstacles, as the target on Ovi's head grows bigger and the boundaries between good and bad collapses.
Action-packed with great stunt scenes, you'd expect nothing less from an Avenger seeking redemption. Rake shows a softer side as he begins to bond with young Ovi and sees him as more than just a job. The film also stars David Harbour (Rake's trusted friend), Rudhraksh Jaiswal (the kidnapped Ovi), Randeep Hooda (a deadly fighter thwarting Rake's mission), Golshifteh Farahani (Rake's handler), Pankaj Tripathi (young Ovi's drug lord dad), and Priyanshu Painyuli (the rival drug lord and kidnapper).
It's difficult to fault any of the male actors in the film, especially with a star who's a veteran of action-packed films. You might recognise Emmy-nominated actor David Harbour (Chief Hopper) from Stranger Things. Though playing a pivotal character in a cameo, Pankaj Tripathi as Ovi senior is among the most sought-after actors in Bollywood. Priyanshu Painyulli as the rival druglord Amir is a theatre actor in India. Hooda is an Indian actor with a long list of titles under his belt. Fourteen year old Jaiswal (at the time of filming) is a young actor in Mumbai, India with his first major role in 2013 when he played Sahadeva in Mahabharata.
If you have Netflix, what an inexpensive way to see a new release and we could all do with some entertainment in our current climate. A handsome action hero, an equally talented villain, an elegantly clothed and coiffed sadistic drug lord, relentless graphic mayhem, a car chase and more, what more could you ask for in lockdown and isolation. If you're a Hemsworth fan, how could you resist, for better or for worse.
