Have you ever heard about Pooh Corner Environmental Centre? Situated in Wolston Road Wacol, Pooh Corner is an important part of natural habitat encompassing Australian wildlife and environmental walking trails. Pooh Corner is bounded by Wacol Station Road and Ipswich Railway with neighbouring suburbs of Sumner and Riverhills. The land was to be zoned for industrial development however the locals fought hard to retain it as a community area and to protect the wildlife.

The area is home to Australian largest urban kangaroo population as well as numerous wallabies, koalas and birdlife and 16 plant species. On Sunday 24th July from 4.30pm to 7.00pm the Pooh Corner Environment Centre in conjunction with the Peaks to Points Festival will be providing a guided walk around Pooh Corner which will include a presentation by local conservationists. This will be a great opportunity for you to see the wildlife, get some gentle exercise and have time for question and answer at the end of the night. You may even get a chance to see a grey kangaroo in the wild.

The grey kangaroo or Eastern Grey Kangaroo is the second largest and heaviest living marsupial native to Australia. The males are heavily built and muscled in comparison to the Red Kangaroo. They can weigh up to 66kg whereas their female counterpart can weigh up to 40 kg. They are recognised by their soft grey coat and usually their coats are found to be moister than the Red Kangaroo.

The event is being presented by Friends of Pooh Corner and the Wolston and Centenary Catchments Inc . (WaCC). Friends of Pooh Corner rallied to save the land from industrial development. WaCC is a non-profit organisation who work to protect and enhance the natural environment within the Wolston and Centenary catchments.

The event is free for all the family and children do need to be accompanied by an adult. If you wish to attend,it is advisable you contact Simon Birrell on 0429 149 479 so he can ascertain the approximate numbers for the evening. Attendees are to meet at Pooh Corner Environment Centre situated at 100 Wolston Road, Wacol.
