Explore the beautiful town of Wallaroo
Located two hours drive north of Adelaide in the Yorke Peninsula is Wallaroo. A perfect beach getaway for couples and families. Enjoy crystal clear waters, breath in the fresh air while you stroll the jetty, or try your luck at fishing or crabbing. You can drive up for a day or a weekend in this wonderful South Australian location full of fabulous things to do. Here is my guide for what to do, where to eat and where to stay.

What to do

Wateroo- Replacing the old swimming spot, this new swimming enclosure next to the jetty is the latest free attraction. A huge floating pontoon area with netting, where you can swim safely with no fear of sharks.

Heritage Trail- Offering barbecue and sheltered seating area this heritage trail has some interesting historical facts about the copper mining boom in Wallaroo and plaques offering great insight into the history of this famous town.

Lifeline Retail- If you're strolling down the main street, make sure you stop into Lifeline Retail. This op-shop stocks a wide variety including clothes, homewares and books, with all proceeds going to a great cause.

North Beach- North beach is a favourite for swimming, kayaking and is a great family-friendly hang out. This beach is one of few in South Australia that you can drive on. The breakwater offers a windbreak for beachgoers and has generally calm waters.

Wallaroo Adventure Park Playground- Located on John Terrace, this playground is kid heaven. Opened by Geoff Brock, on 19th February 2015. It provides a BBQ shaded area and lots of fun for the kids. This playground has a swing, slides, seesaw and every kid loves a flying fox - this playground has two of them! Also, public toilets are located across the road.

Fishing - Wallaroo has been a favourite location for fisherman for many years. You can enjoy fishing off the jetty, beach fishing or can fish off the rocks. The area is great for catching crabs, squid and many species of fish. Charters from Wallaroo are also very popular and for supplies, the Compleat Angler shop on Wallaroos main street is your go-to stop.

Museum- This museum offers heritage and nautical displays, a souvenir and gift shop, and local history books. Open 7 days.

Historic Walk- Wallaroo historic buildings are all part of a 1 to 1.5 hour self guided walk, which takes you around this vintage town to some of the amazing buildings, including The Old Post Office, Cornucopia Hotel, Wallaroo Town Hall, Railway Station, St. Mary's Anglican Church, Wallaroo Primary School, Police Station and Residence, Court House and Hughes Chimney Stacks. All established around the 1860's

Where to eat
You're spoilt for choice when it comes to eating here as local seafood is sourced wherever possible and quality ingredients are a priority.

Pier 1 Fish and Chips - A popular spot for all your seaside favourites. They offer outdoor seating with beautiful views and affordable tasty options. 1 Jetty Road Wallaroo.

The Smelter- Located on the main street, this cute cafe has outdoor and indoor seating and offers all-day breakfast, lunch and dessert 15 Owen Terrace, Wallaroo SA 5556

Located on the main street is this cute coffee/dessert shop. The menu is full of yummy treats that will satisfy your taste buds and take you for a trip down memory lane. Check out my article here.

Caffe Mia - Located on a prime location, right next to the jetty overlooking the ocean, this cafe serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and coffee. Always busy with relaxed Wallaroo visitors, this cafe is the perfect stop for a cold beverage or light meal after strolling the jetty or splashing in the water.

Wallaroo treasures and treats café- An antique shop and cafe all in one. Have a coffee while you browse through all the antique items.

Anglers Inn- Built in the 1800's, this classic town pub has a huge dining room and quality food. A favourite for my partner and I, we love the extensive menu with plenty of favourites that don't stray too far away from the classic pub meals that I love. It also has a kids play area, large front bar, 20 gaming machines and affordable accommodation.

Coopers Alehouse - Enjoy the best views around Wallaroo with a beverage in hand. Meals are prepared using fresh, local produce and can enjoy favourites such as classic pub meals, wood fire pizza and weekly dinner specials. You can also play a game of pool or table tennis in the sports bar.

There are so many more places to eat, here are a few more ideas. Weerona Hotel, Prince Edward Hotel,Copper Coast Hotel and Best Pizza.

Where To Stay

Macs Beachfront Villas - With beautiful villas fit for any family, these award-winning villas are the perfect location to enjoy your weekend away. They have a barbecue area with a fridge and crab pot to cook up your fresh catch, in-ground heated pool and grass area and are walking distance to so many attractions around the town. The best thing is that four of these villas are beachfront, including the gorgeous honeymoon villa with a spa bath and deck overlooking the ocean. Receive a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates on arrival. With friendly staff and thirteen affordable villas to choose from, I will keep coming back.

Wallaroo Marina Apartments

Opened in July 2008, this five-story high building offers 25 modern and spacious apartments that have amazing views out of every window. If you are looking for luxury accommodation, this is where you will want to be. With townhouse apartments, Executive Apartment and Penthouses. The Marina Apartments can cater from one to eight guests.

Wallaroo Holiday Park-
North Beach Caravan Park is a favourite for families and it's no secret why. This caravan park offers clean and well-maintained family cabins and plenty of facilities to keep the whole family happy. For the kids, they have an arcade room, playground and jumping pillow. For the parents, they have a boat cleaning area, crab cookers, undercover barbecue area, free wi-fi and camp kitchen and a kiosk that stocks general groceries, and tourist information.

Finding it hard to find accommodation for a large group? Cu @ Wallaroo can comfortably sleep 100 guests over there 2 large venues. A former warehouse, it has been well appointed with a large kitchen, modern bathrooms and has an outdoor deck area with wood-fired oven pizza and barbecue facilities. Located a short walk from the beach, and jetty this is one to remember.
