Located about 50 minutes drive from the city is an amazing suburb for a fantastic day out. For my sister's birthday, I wanted to find somewhere I could spend the whole day, that was budget friendly, not too far and somewhere that will offer pristine scenery and a relaxing spot to spend our day. We found all that exploring Kuitpo.

Kuitpo Forest
First up we visited the Kuitpo Forest. The Forest covers an area of 3600 hectares with most of this area being covered by vegetation. The forest is open to all, offering fresh air and perfect greenery. This forest has prime 'twilight' vibes in the large pine trees, no wonder it is a popular location for walking trails, weddings, picnics and photo shoots.

You could spend a few hours, a day or a few days here. There are many trails that lead through the forest. The Heysen (walking) and Kidman (horse riding) are some popular trails and can vary from one - four hours. You can also just relax and take in the peaceful tranquility in one of the are many picnic areas or stay the night in the camping areas.

The many entrances can be confusing, so if you're after a campground, here is where you will want to look for.

Chookarloo (Campground and Picnic Area)
Chookarloo is the main camping area at Kuitpo Forest consisting of 23 campsites with rainwater, and a picnic area with shelters, picnic tables and a toilet.

Jack's Paddock (Kidman Trail Camping Area)
If you're going to be camping with horses, this is where you want to be. Offering 6 campsites, 8 horse yards, rainwater, picnic tables and a toilet.

Rocky Creek (Campground)
Rocky Creek campground is perfect for large groups with picnic tables and a toilet.

The Avenues Picnic Area
As for the picnic areas, I visited the Avenues Picnic Area, with entry from Brookman Road. This is a popular picnic area with many divergent trees and toilet facilities.
K1 Cellar Door by Geoff Hardy

A short drive from the forest you enter the breathtaking views over the glistening lake and green and golden vineyard at K1 Cellar Door.

This cellar door has been recognised in Australia's top 10 cellar door experiences. It is an oasis for wine lovers with 10 wines to try and buy and crackers, cheeses, meats and dips to purchase to make your own platter to enjoy with a wine in hand overlooking the flawless views.

The cellar door is child-friendly and is a double story wooden shack-like building that sits over the water. Inside you are greeted by the friendly staff and are taken to a hand-made red gum, wooden island where you can try the amazing reds, whites, sparking and dessert wine they have to offer.

The cellar door has a large top story function room perfect for weddings, private functions and corporate events. They make every function special and will have everyone being astounded by the location.
