A great destination for a city getaway, a mere day trip away at 90 mins away from the CBD in the Shire of Mount Alexander - Maldon has been designated Australia's first notable town and is notable for its great 19th-century appearance, maintained since gold rush days.

Journey to historic Maldon and experience what life was like during the gold rush era as you wander past old weatherboard homes, remnants of the past lovingly preserved. In recognition, Maldon was awarded the most intact heritage streetscape by the National Trust in 2006.

Maldon was the first town to use compressed air driven rock drilling technology in mining, which was a milestone in Australian underground mining. Give yourself a break from city life and get to know Maldon; explore an underground gold mine by candlelight at Carman's Tunnel; take a ride on a steam train at the Victorian Goldfields Railway; reminisce with an extensive range of good old fashioned and traditional sweets and journey back to childhood with the Maldon Lolly Shop. Just take a break and breathe.

Maldon plays host to a variety of events and festivals that include the Maldon Twilight Food and Wine Festival, Maldon Antique & Collectables Fair, Maldon Easter Fair, Maldon Agricultural Show, Maldon Folk Festival and Maldon Market. One of my favourite movies with Eric Bana, Romulus, My Father was shot on location in Maldon. It is timely for all these adventures and to afford yourself a getaway after the year we've had. It's good for the mind/mental health and food for the soul to take a break every now and again while supporting local industries and tourism after the debilitating year we've had by exploring what's in our own backyard.

  • Do you know the real meaning of Hygge ? It's enjoying the simple pleasures of life! And that would be Maldon Getaways' new listing which is now up and running. Sunday House is your 4 bedroom house, with Fairbank House, Joseph's Cottage, Lauren Cottage and Wiltshire house being your 3 bedroom properties . For something, a touch smaller, your 2 bedroom houses are Howards End, Miss Pym's Cottage, Winter Creek Cottage, Shopkeeper's and Parker Lodge Maldon. If you're just looking to get away from the rest of the world or spend alone time with your lover, you'll be after the Studio one-bedroom accommodation like The Poolhouse, The Grand Hotel Studio, Willow Cottage, TLC - The Little Cottage, Hygge - NEW!, or 73 on High. There's also The Maldon Dairy which is just one bedroom but sleeps up to 4 with one Queen room and a large sofa bed in the living room.

A property that speaks to my aforementioned favourite movie. The milking shed was home to farming equipment built by Romulus Gaita, father of renowned philosopher Raimond Gaita and the titular character in his esteemed 1998 book, Romulus My Father, now renovated into a cosy holiday rental with a vibrant past . Take your pick from 17 properties and be ensured Jamie and Ken will be doing their utmost to welcome you and initiate you to a Maldon they love so well.
