The Road, a photographic exhibition by Michele Fountain at Red Earth Gallery, 125 Brice Ave, Mooroolbark, from 16 August to 23 September 2017 has been several years in the making. They form a study intended to lead to a further series of textile and print based works. Entry is free and the Opening Night event is on Thursday 17 August, 6pm - 8pm at the same venue. The image below of new cards from the Hume Highway series, are some of the designs that'll be available on Opening Night.
A Dandenong Ranges local, Michele has been travelling the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Canberra for a lifetime. As a regular traveller, she has fondly recorded and shares with us a rare glimpse into an Australian way of life that is typical of highway towns through colourful, textural photographic images.
Ordinary and whimsical, come along and experience the joy of The Road, and see the treasured character of the highway towns from the perspective of someone who has a unique way of seeing the world. They show an Australia built by individuals and families and a way of life worth celebrating. They stand as a compelling record of a slice of the country that many never experience.
Gallery hours are Mon, Tue, Fri - 9am to 5pm, Wed & Thu - 9am to 9pm and Sat - 10am to 2pm.
