Recently redeveloped, The Exchange Hotel has long been a Newcastle institution. Built and operating in 1880 as the Miners Exchange, it reopened on September 26 2020 after extensive and expensive renovations. The dining area and cocktail bar are upstairs and is decorated in a manner that pays homage to the history of the building.
The menu has a strong Italian influence as well as the usual pub classics of chicken schnitzel, parmigiana and fish & chips. This is supplemented with a daily specials board. They claim to have the best wood fired pizzas in Newcastle and the pasta is made in house. Some of the menu items are suitable for people on modified diets such as gluten or dairy-free, vegetarian or vegan.
There is a warm welcoming atmosphere in The Kitchen, which is suitable for family meals. Children's meals are $12 with ice cream $5. Children are not permitted after 10pm when the venue becomes an adult cocktail bar and entertainment area.
