Keep it authentic. Keep it affordable. Keep me keen.
Published February 10th 2013

Breaking the tradition of Shanghai dumplings and noodle bars, a new cafe in Ashfield has opened up and is full steam ahead.

Excelsior Jones cafe is the new kid on the block that you can't help but check out.

Sitting on a perfect sunlit street corner, the cafe bursts dinning ware replicating an Aesop counter and immediately makes you feel like you walked into an interior tumblr blog. Classic but homey, Excelsior has nailed the atmosphere on the head.

The breakfast menu tweaks the usual cafe standards and covers every pallet. For the healthy ones, a Poached and Fresh fruit plate with yoghurt is the ultimate morning kick start alongside a sweet watermelon and orange juice. For those with a heavy head, the Bacon and Egg Sandwich will soak up most of last night's mistakes and replace them with a great taste of aioli and capsicum relish.

Sourdough sandwiches and light salads have all bases covered for lunch and the Cheeseburgers are already becoming a cult favourite in the neighbourhood.

If you're keen for a refresher the Five Senses coffee will certainly get you buzzing. Better still, a malted milkshake or lemonade spider should get your nostalgia going along with your taste buds.

The staff are super friendly and ultra efficient which will ultimately make yourself question your own working habits.

Prices are the standard for an inner west cafe ($10 - 18) but the atmosphere and service makes this one a standout from the rest.

Approved for hangover cures, afternoon blues, weekend treats, caffeine hits and any other occasion you don't need an excuse for.

On 2 separate occasions the invoice provided to me by the Excelsior Jones (Queen St, Ashfield NSW) cashier did not contain an ABN (Aust Business Number). I need this in order to make a reimbursement claim at work. When I called up and politely asked for this, I was told to call back and speak to the 'manager'. When I did speak to the 'manager' several hours later, he flatly refused to provide an ABN because it is 'private'.
