Only a few days left of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and if you are looking for some excellent improv comedy, then check out Everyday Monsters.
Everyday Monsters - starring Brenton Amies and Cam Ralph – is 60-minutes of non-stop improv comedy, performed entirely through the power of puppetry. There are no scripts, no limits, no exceptions!
Everyday Monsters combines elements of traditional Theatresports games and long-form improv theatre with puppetry. Each night the audience gets to cast the characters by selecting from a wall of interchangeable eyes, noses, wigs and more! The Muppets meets Avenue Q meets Neighbours meets Survivor. Anything could happen.
Everyday Monster (the company) started life as a cultish comedy podcast, where these two mates from Sydney talked about absolutely nothing, as long as it made them laugh their little tits off. And their growing fan-base agrees!
Now, fresh from winning Best Production at Short Sweet Sydney and armed with razor sharp improv, character building and voice acting skills, the duo are part of this year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival!
I went during the week and there was a very small audience. This meant that we could all be involved in choosing quotes, themes, props and puppet emotions. They kept the whole show moving along with great characters and assorted laughs. I think this is the kind of show that can really depend on the audience and what topics get introduced and talked about.
