While I've been to Leura many times, I'd never taken the time to visit the Everglades, a grand house built in the 1930's on sprawling fantasy grounds with spectacular views across the valley.

The best times to visit would be Spring, when all the flowers were out or Autumn when the leaves were changing, but even in the dead of Winter, with bare trees and empty beds, it was beautiful and the kids loved exploring the trails and paths, discovering the magical grotto.

My only regret was that we went after lunch, and I'd already promised the kids a trip to The Candy Store, as it meant we didn't get to visit the Tea Rooms, with it's roaring fire, in the historic home. We did look enviously at the couple enjoying their lunch and view in the sun basked glass window.

We passed a very enjoyable ninety minutes meandering around the grounds and even the kids are keen to return when the garden is in full bloom, and as I have 2 boys, that is saying something!
