During September and October, the stunning estate of Rippon Lea is hosting several very interesting events which should appeal to a wide section of the community.



Apart from the currently running exhibition of costumes from the TV series "Miss Fisher's Murder Mystery" (Refer to previous article "Miss Fisher's Murder Mystery Costumes at Rippon Lea"), which you can wander through by yourself, there is also a "Guided Exhibition Tour with Marion Boyce". Marion is the costumer designer and created the wonderful costumes seen throughout the two series. She will share her inspiration for the costumes and give tips on how to create the 1920s look. Vintage fashion enthusiasts will love this!

The estate is also playing host to "Miss Fisher's Tea Dance" which offers a contemporary afternoon tea of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with the customary strawberry jam and clotted cream, cakes and pastries. A variety of teas is also on offer. Dance to the lively tempo of a three piece band offering a wide range of ballroom music. Miss Fisher would certainly been in attendance so maybe it's ideal for you too? Bookings are essential.

When: September 22nd - 2pm-5pm



There is a huge day planned offering activities, games and even a treasure hunt for children at the "Trust kids! Great Day Out" event. The activities are divided into six categories and kids will be divided into groups and will then spend two hours keeping well and truly occupied in each of the activities (Paper Plane Master Class, Creature Catcher, Tug of War, Egg & Spoon Races and several more). All participants will receive a certificate for completing Rippon Lea's Great Day Out.
Bookings are required.

Adding to the agenda of events is the "Lindy Charm School for Girls- 1920s style Workshops". Set in the beautiful ballroom, a specialist will present two exciting style and fashion workshops. The "tricks of the trade", the dos and don'ts of hair styles and make-up techniques of the glamorous 20s will be shared with participants. Bookings are essential and these workshops are expected to be popular, so don't miss out.

The final agenda item is "Miss Fisher's Author's Talk and Afternoon Tea" . Author Kerry Greenwood will take you through the inspirations for the books and their fascinating characters and fashions. Guests will also be privy to a discussion on Kerry's latest (20th) novel, Murder and Medelssohn. The Phryne inspired afternoon tea consists of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, cakes, pastries and a variety of tea infusions.

Please note :- that photography of kind is not allowed inside the Mansion during the exhibitions.



While you're visiting, please wander through the magnificent mansion with it's grand ballroom and swimming pool, conservatory and basement kitchens. Take a stroll around the heritage gardens and note the ornamental lake with its ducks and eels, the lookout tower, windmill, gatehouse, archery hut, boat house, grotto and heritage orchards. You'll also discover the largest covered fernery in the world, the interactive creature catcher trail, the labyrinth grass maze, grass tennis courts (for hire) and the coach house and stables.
