Award-winning Koorliny Arts Centre is gearing up for another exciting year with a big line-up of shows on offer, from family shows and musical theatre, to comedy, concerts and drama, as well as author talks and dance festivals.

The centre made a splash at the 42nd annual Finley Awards, taking out the Best Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Shanice Palfrey), Best Director of a Musical (Brad Tudor and Nat Burbage), and Best Costume Design awards for its 2016 production of The Little Mermaid. Other awards included Best Actor in a Musical award and Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for the same production, both for the centre's production of Spamalot.

The Koorliny Arts Centre and Kwinana Industries Council 2017 Performance Season kicks off with Chicago (February), The Witches (May), City of Angels (August-September) and Stepping Out (November).

Rehearsals are heating up for Chicago, with the show opening on February 10. Audiences can expect one show-stopping song after another, coupled with astonishing dancing and standing-ovation worthy performances.

Auditions are being held on February 12 for Roald Dahl's The Witches, which promises to be a family show but no fairy tale. To keep in the loop regarding upcoming auditions, the centre advises people to like its Facebook page or sign up for its monthly newsletter.

Touring shows include family show Benjamin & Me, the Melbourne Comedy International Festival Roadshow, Geraldine Turner's cabaret show Turner's Turn, HIT Productions' Rumour Has It and Everybody Loves Lucy, Sun Rising: The songs of Memphis, and The Kazoos' Christmas show.

Paul McCartney, Peggy Lee, and Dusty Springfield tribute acts are part of the Morning Melodies program, with shows on the second Friday of each month, starting with morning tea at 10am. Tickets for this programme often sell out, so it's best to get in early, especially if seats close to the front are needed.

Stories on Stage is back for 2017, kicking off with Perth author Norman Jorgensen on March 29. Other authors already confirmed for the 2017 program are David Whish-Wilson, Alli Sinclair, Gabriel Evans and Rashida Murphy. These events continue to grow in popularity, with people commenting that they enjoy the theatre setting almost as much as the supper!

Children's drama and musical theatre classes will resume at Koorliny Arts Centre on February 4.

Continuing an exciting partnership with the centre, Barking Gecko Theatre Company will deliver Gecko Ensembles – in-term drama workshops – for children aged 8-17 years on Saturdays. Musical theatre classes, taught by Lea Cullen Lynes, will be held on Saturday afternoons for children aged over five years old. Both classes nurture young people's creative and social skills through the arts. All that is needed is enthusiasm!

Enrolments for Gecko Ensembles can be made by visiting the Barking Gecko Theatre Company website . The cost is $180 per term.

Enrolment forms for musical theatre classes are available at the Koorliny Arts Centre Box Office or the centre's website . The cost is $12 per week, with fees payable upfront at the Box Office each term by the first class date.

Music and dance lessons also continue to be provided through Wellard School of Music and Instep Performance Academy.

Other programs continuing at the centre in 2017 include Stories on Stage, Morning Melodies, Koorliny Leisure Painters group (Tuesdays from 9am to noon), Acorn craft group (Mondays from 9am to noon), Coffee Shop Book Club, and ninja classes.

More programs are expected to be added over the next few months.
