The Sidney Myer Music Bowl has been a magical part of Melbourne's entertainment fabric since its conception. It's hosted some big names in the performance industry and the odd ice skating event. It's no slouch at being on the ready for the next slew of events. In fact you can start perusing all upcoming events for the rest of 2021 and all of 2022; and being ambitious, even an event in 2023. Just take a LOOK.
Kick-starting with Spring Loaded on 4 Dec 2021, the Front GA Pit has already exhausted allocation. Testament to how popular events at the Bowl are, and why you need to get in early to book. Pre-warned is pre-armed. The Spring Loaded event has a colossal lineup dripping in 90s Aussie alt-rock nostalgia, boasting a haul of the decade's most celebrated acts, including Grinspoon, You Am I, Regurgitator, Jebediah, Magic Dirt, Custard, The Fauves, Screamfeeder, and MC Dylan Lewis.
It only keeps getting better as it's followed by Classical Hits at the Bowl on 6-7 December with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra displaying a music might only a symphony orchestra can deliver. On 8 December, with James Bond very much in our sight line in his last role as 007 Bond on cinema screens, you have Skyfall in Concert, again with the MSO, performing Thomas Newman's award-winning score live to picture. Now that's going to be one not to be missed.
The list goes on and includes Melbourne's beloved annual Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight on Christmas Eve. David Campbell and Ally Langdon will again host the nation's favourite Christmas Eve tradition as it celebrates a long-awaited return to its full grandeur. You know you're in for a fantastic night with a lineup of stars in the sky and on stage.
How are you going to ring in the New Year you wonder? How about Beyond the City on 30 and 31 Dec? Australia's premiere New Year's festival is coming from the Valley to the City for this very special 2021 edition. This event will host a mix of top-tier artists and breakthrough talent across a range of genres, including some of the best live bands, electronic artists and hip hop acts.
Kids don't miss out with Shaun the Sheep's Circus Show which kicks off 2022! Everyone's favourite sheep takes over the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl stage this summer from 5-9 Jan. Academy AwardŽ winning studio Aardman and internationally acclaimed circus company Circa bring Shaun the Sheep to life. Dare I say the next act to follow on 22 Jan 2022 are The Teskey Brothers with Orchestra Victoria! From performing at markets onto the world stage, don't miss this once in a lifetime performance. The band will also be joined by the amazing Emma Donovan & The Putbacks.
Looking for freebies? The 9, 12 & 19 Feb is all yours. Melbourne summers have been punctuated by the MSO's annual free concert series and this year it's no different. From a symphonic soiree; an evening of John Williams to the music of Archie Roach, take the whole family for a night out under the stars, complete with munchies and drinks on a picnic blanket.
Please do check out the whole program for a great lineup that includes far more than listed here, including Dublin's three-piece, The Script. Four years since their last headline shows down under, the group will touch down next September for a stellar performance in Melbourne as part of their Greatest Hits Tour 2022. It's a little wait yet, but you can also hang out for Lorde in March 2023.
