It's commonly assumed that mums are the ones who spend the majority of their time caring for kids, but as double-income families, FIFO mums and stay-at-home dads become more common there is a growing need for activities and events catering to dads.

Here we find of the best activities in Perth especially for dads.

Dads Wildtime

Held on the third Saturday of the month, Wildtime is a special storytime for Dads, Grandpas, Uncles and Big Brothers to connect with their pre-schoolers (2-5 years) in a special, bloke-oriented environment. With a special adventure themed story and hands-on games and activities in the natural environment of the Theatre Gardens Park, this free event is a special Dad-only event.

When: third Saturday of the month, 9.30am-11am

Daddy and Me Saturday Storytime
For dads, granddads, uncles and big brothers, the Saturday Storytime sessions are a special male-only time to bond with their pre-school children between 2-5 years. The free sessions are designed for male caregivers to have a special bonding time with rhymes, stories and building with Duplo.

When: every Saturday during school term, 10.30am-11am
Where: AH Bracks Library, corner Canning Hwy and Stock Road, Melville

Beer and Bubs
Not as dodgy as it sounds, the Beer and Bubs sessions are run at various pubs around Australia especially for first-time dads who want to learn more about what to expect from their upcoming role as a dad, how to support their partner through the birth of their baby and who want some practical knowledge.

In WA, sessions are held at Pure Bar in Subiaco, as well as Bunbury and Mandurah. Click here to find upcoming dates or to register your interest.

Travel Experiences for Dads and Kids
Organised by the highly respected Fathering Project, these fully escorted holidays are for Dads and one child and are a fun and feature-packed way of spending time, building memories and perhaps even changing your approach to fathering. In 2016 the holiday experiences include Broome, Singapore, Rottnest Island and Melbourne.

Playgroup for Dads, Kwinana
Run by Ngala, and held on the first Saturday of the month, this special playgroup session is just for Dads and their kids and is a great chance to meet other fathers as well as allow children to learn and have fun in an informal session.

When: first Saturday of the month, 9.30am-11.30am
Where: Parent and Child Centre, Harlow Rd, Calista (next to Calista Primary School)

Dad 2 Dad
Run by The Bump, these men-only two hour workshops are held regularly in locations across Perth and are perfect for first time dads who have questions they need answered. Run by a male midwife, this blokes-only event will help you get up to speed on the technical aspects of birth as well as what to expect afterwards.

Baby Rhyme Time Sessions for Fathers and Families
Baby Rhyme Time sessions are held across Perth, a wonderful ongoing free service courtesy of Better Beginnings. While all sessions welcome all carers, some dedicated Baby Rhyme Times such as those held by the City of Joondalup are held especially for Fathers and Families. Sessions for Dads are held at a number of the northern libraries including Joondalup, Whitfords, Duncraig and Woodvale. Contact the City for upcoming dates.

4Dads is an ongoing program run by Relationships WA for fathers of children aged up to 18 in the Mandurah and Pinjarra region. With a number of different programs including 6 week parenting programs focussing on either kids or teens, they also offer 'Dads Supporting Dads', an open drop-in style group where Dads can meet and chat over a BBQ.

Dads Raising Girls
Breaking down a number of myths including the idea that mums are more important than dads this workshop is for Dads in all situations, single, married, separated, with teens or toddlers. Run every couple of months, this open and information session is popular and covers the importance of the father-daughter relationship, what daughters need from their dads, and how to build and maintain a rewarding relationship.

Workshops for Dads
Run by Ngala, these monthly workshops for Dads is for fathers from all backgrounds of kids aged 0-5 years, and provides men with the skills to build strong connection with their children, looking at the different stages of development and what to expect along the way. Run by a Dad for Dads, these popular courses are run every month and often book out, so it's best to plan ahead.

When: Tuesday 9th August, from 6.30-8.30pm
Where: 275 Abernethy Road, Belmont

Support for dads experiencing perinatal anxiety or depression at The Raphael Centre.

And while it may not be the type of movie Dads will be taking their pre-school aged daughter along to (try Finding Dory), there will be a movies called Fathers and Daughters opening in cinemas in July 2016.
