If you're looking for a new picnic spot you might wish to consider at Lugarno , a tranquil park just a 35 minute drive south west of the CBD.

The park is very pretty without being perfectly manicured, so it still maintains a picture of ruggedness that is quintessentially Australian. Dotted with picnic tables, barbecues and tree cover, it's got all the makings of an ideal picnic spot. On a sunny winter's day there were enough people to make it feel social, without being crowded and with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the park.

The picnic area overlooks a serene duck pond, which is home to many bird species and as I write this article, I think back on a scene I saw that you don't come across too often these days; the pure enjoyment on the faces of young children feeding the ducks, running around and just having plain old fun enjoying the outdoors.

On the edge of the pond you will find a long walking track, so you can take a stroll along the water and enjoy the views. As far as picnic spots go, it really doesn't get much better than this. So isn't it about time you packed that picnic basket and enjoyed a good old fashioned picnic in the park?
