More interesting than your average service station
On a recent holiday to the Sunshine Coast we decided to make a stop on the Bruce Highway at Ettamogah Pub. We have driven past this large quirky shaped pub many times before but had never stopped.
Ettamogah Pub Stands at 18m Tall
Located right in front of Aussie World you cannot miss this 18 metre high uniquely designed pub. Its cartoonish design comes from exactly that – a cartoon. Ken Maynard began drawing the pub in his regular cartoons in 1959. These were published in The Australian Post. Built in 1989 it is now one of the most photographed pubs in the world.
I really wasn't sure what to expect inside but it's just as fun and quirky as the exterior of the pub. There are plenty of interesting things to look at. This includes the cartoons themselves.
Something Different Everywhere You Look
Inside Ettamogah Pub
Ettamogah Pub is open 9am till late and is also home to Bluey's Bar and Grill which is found upstairs. This is open 11am till 8pm.

We only stopped for drinks on our way up the coast but it was somewhere different to explore. My children loved the dog found just outside the main entrance to the pub.
Beware of the Dog
Located next door to the pub is Ettamogah Retail Village. This is full of unique and varied gift shops. My favourite was Driftwoods Unique Gifts where Australian timbers are used to make a whole variety of original souvenirs.
Located Directly off the Bruce Highway
So, if you want to stop off somewhere a bit different while driving up or down the Bruce Highway, I'd recommend Ettamogah Pub and Ettamogah Retail Village. It's original, fun and so much more interesting than your regular service station.
