Essence Espresso is a colourful café that is located on Espresso Nelson Bay/@-32.7221045,152.1439783,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x7d01462577a72354!8m2!3d-32.7221045!4d152.1439783 Donald Street , in the heart of Nelson Bay. Although there are many popular breakfast cafes in town, Essence Espresso is another busy venue which attracts locals and visitors who want to stop for a coffee, families who want to have a healthy breakfast and couples who want to relax together on the couches. It is one of those cafes that you walk into and say "Wow, this is funky".

It is definitely not short on colour!

Our family enjoy visiting this café for its well-priced food, delicious menu and beautifully-made coffee. If you order a cappuccino, expect to find a cute surprise - which is guaranteed to start your day with a smile...

Over the last few months, we have visited this café for Saturday morning breakfast a number of times and kept going back for the menu - it doesn't matter what you pick, you will find something for every taste, hunger level and budget. The Breakfast Menu is particularly affordable, with most choices under $15 and the most expensive item on the menu is $20. Ensure you check out the Specials Board on the way in, which has extra options each day.

On our last visit we sat outside along the street front and ordered the Avocado and Feta Smash and Eggs Benedict, while our young daughter ordered fruit toast and a kids-sized milkshake. Each meal was eaten with gusto, with an enjoyable blend of flavours and sourdough toast supplied from Two Bobs Bakery , just around the corner.

The serving sizes were just right - large enough to fill you up but not so huge that you couldn't move afterwards. We all scraped every last bit off our plates and could then go and enjoy a bike ride along the Nelson Bay Foreshore nearby, without feeling so heavy that we would fall off! Our meals left us feeling energised and ready to start the day, in the stunning Nelson Bay.

Although this colourful café is popular for breakfast, they also attract the regulars with their affordable lunch menu, delicious coffee and sweet treats, that you can enjoy all day long. Check out their Facebook for updates on the cakes they will be selling on the day of your visit, with attractive donuts, slices, pies, cakes and cupcakes to make your stomach rumble.

Essence Espresso is a popular cafe for a reason - it is friendly and a welcoming hub for the local community. Friends meet up for breakfast, dog-walkers stop for takeaway coffees and locals chat to each other between tables. As you sit there, you feel like you have settled in to a comfortable café, which is like a home away from home.

If you visit with kids, they will love the colourful cups, the colourful décor...and of course the colourful cupcakes!
