The Esplanade Resort and Spa is well positioned in the town of Lakes Entrance to take full vantage of the Lake frontage. Sit back, relax and watch the boats come and go from the comfort of your balcony in this small tourist seaside town.
On this occasion we stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment with 2 queen beds and and a set of bunks in the third room. It had two bathrooms, one with a bath, a full sized kitchen, lounge area, good sized T.V, washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave and best of all, it had great views from each of the windows ( we got a front corner room on the second floor so it does depend on where your room is located) .
The apartment was spacious and well equipped and has everything you need to stay anywhere from a night to a week or more. Parking is provided undercover and they also cater for people towing boats or caravans as long as you mention it at the time of booking.
It's a little hard to see with the photo but the water views were lovely
Facilities are fantastic and kept the children entertained for the short amount of time we were at the resort. The indoor heated pool and spa were at the top their list followed by a quick plunge in the outdoor pool. The resort also has an old tennis court which is still fun for kids but maybe a bit tired for a competitive game and there is a new playground which is oddly placed in the car park area with no fencing so the only time they used the playground was when I was packing the car and my sister was watching them.
For the grown ups you may enjoy relaxing on a deck chair under an umbrella next to the pool with a cool beverage or for a bit more relaxation you could visit the Illuka day spa adjoining the pool area. Prices for the day spa and a full treatment menu can be found here.
The Esplanade Resort and Day Spa also have their own restaurant called One @ One and offers full buffet breakfast from 7am and costs $19 p/p. Dinner is from 6 pm and the licensed bar opens at 5pm daily. Room service is available for breakfast between 6am - 8:30am. We didn't visit the restaurant as we were only there for one night and with kids I find it easier to take cereal and use the facilities provided in the room for breakfast. For dinner we strolled down the Main St and settled on fish and chips and ate them on the water front.
Overall: This 4 and a half star resort is a perfect place for families to stay. Rates are reasonable, we paid $219 for a 3 bedroom apartment in December ( January is expensive at $490 but reverts back in February) . Rooms are clean, resort staff are friendly and it offers everything you need for an enjoyable time away.
On the opposite side of the road is a walking track that follows the water, it's well worth the stroll and whilst you're down there you might find a boat or two selling fresh seafood, perfect to take back and cook up in your room.
For a great bird's eye view of the lakes, there is a great viewing spot just before you come into town on the top of the hill ( on the aptly named Lookout Hill Rd), check out the picture below.
