Escape from reality for a good cause
Do you love solving puzzles and riddles? Are you good at finding clues or hidden objects? Have you always secretly thought you would give James Bond or Sherlock Holmes a run for their money? If you answered "Yes!" to any of these questions this event is for you.
Escape Week is a charity event being run by escape room businesses across Australia. If you've not yet heard of the escape room industry, let me explain.
Escape rooms are exciting and fun interactive games where groups or teams, usually friends or work colleagues, are placed in a specially-designed room to face a series of puzzles that can be solved by using clues or items in the room. As you solve the puzzles you progress through the story with the aim of finding your way out, or escaping the room, within the set time frame.
The escape room phenomenon began in Japan around 2007 and has since spread worldwide. Over the last couple of years escape rooms have popped up in cities all over Australia.
Which theme will you choose for your Escape Room adventure?
Each escape room has its own theme and storyline. It could be a spy or thriller themed mission, a bank heist or escaping from a haunted house or a dungeon. Each uniquely themed room and puzzle will require some creative thinking. Great communication and team work will also be the keys to your success.
Experiencing an escape room has been on my To Do List for a while now. If you are also excited to give it a try now is the perfect opportunity as you have the chance to support a good cause at the same time.
Can you find the clues and solve the puzzles in time?
Escape Week has been created by the escape room industry as a charity event to support the Black Dog Institute. The aim of the Black Dog Institute is to reduce the incidence of mental illness and the stigma around it, to actively reduce suicide rates and empower everyone to live the most mentally healthy lives possible.
The Black Dog Institute has been chosen in order to support a charity that has an impact on the customers in this industry. With current statistics showing that mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians, the Black Dog Institute does important work in understanding, preventing and treating mental illness.
During Escape Week, which will run from 11th - 17th September 2017, 20% of all profits from participating escape rooms will be donated to the Black Dog Institute.
Wherever you are in Australia you can get involved by putting a team together and heading to your local participating escape room business. For a list of all of the participating businesses Australia-wide please click here.
