Escape to Adelaide and South Australia

Tourists don't necessarily consider Adelaide and South Australia when they plan a trip Down Under. It's a pity, because this Australian region has lots to offer.
My wife and I flew to Adelaide last month to spend a few days there before visiting the Barossa Valley, the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.
We first stayed in the
Crowne Plaza Adelaide , a nice hotel right in the centre of the city. There were plenty of very interesting museums there, like the
South Australian Museum or the
Migration Museum . Adelaide isn't a huge city, but we thought its cultural offering was great.
We also decided to go to the
Adelaide Zoo , where I saw kangaroos and wallabies up close for the first time. They were really friendly! It's definitely one of the nicest zoos I've ever been to.
After two days in Adelaide, we hopped on a bus and went to the Barossa Valley in the North East of Adelaide. It was absolutely gorgeous, and the wine tasting was out of this world! We really loved the tours there, and how we could sample so many wines with lovely cheese. The weather was very sunny too, so it was great enjoying the local products sitting at a table overlooking breathtaking landscapes.
The Fleurieu Peninsula was equally beautiful, and the wine and cheese... Very yummy! This gorgeous area is located in the South of Adelaide, right next to Kangaroo Island. It's very picturesque, with rolling hills and nice little houses. Sometimes it nearly felt like Europe.
My wife and I rented a car, and off we went to Kangaroo Island.
It's a very beautiful, unspoilt area full of amazing wildlife. We saw so many kangaroos, koalas and seals everywhere... It was a fantastic break from the city, and a very unique place where tourists feel like one with nature. While talking with a guide, we learned that lots of couples stay there for their honeymoon because it's so romantic.
We walked on the beach there, and it was great to smell the sea breeze. We felt like we were alone in the world, and away from all civilisation. After a night camping under the stars, we drove back to Adelaide, and flew home with a tear in our eyes. Adelaide and South Australia are very genuine places, with so many great things to do. We think it should be more famous and hope this article will make travellers want to go there.
