Escape Rooms are really taking off in Australia and are perfect for date night or as a group. What is an Escape Room you ask? In a nutshell, it's kind of like stepping into a real-life storybook and in order to escape or win you must solve a series of puzzles and riddles. It's quite an escape from reality too as you are locked in the room(s) with music, sound effects and realistic props and décor which we found immediately immersed us into the game.

At Escape Room South Melbourne, my partner and I chose the themed room called Kellar's Magic Emporium, which has an early twentieth-century theme and was a little spooky. The premise is that you have been short-listed for the role of a Magician's Assistant for the famous Magician Kellar and are required to solve a series of puzzles in order to test your skills. But your test takes an interesting turn as you uncover a ghastly plot with not all things seeming what they seem.

You have roughly 70 minutes to figure out all the clues and solve the mystery. There is a webcam and a walkie talkie in the room which is monitored by staff and if run into difficulty or you need help figuring out something you can just call up for help. We were intrigued the whole time and the clues and puzzles were fun to solve and flowed together beautifully.

Escape Room Melbourne has two locations in Flemington and South Melbourne and they have a variety of theme rooms to choose from. Most rooms are 2-6 players but some require 3 or more.
