With a show name like "Erotic Intelligence for Dummies", I must say I was a tad dubious and not 100% sure I knew what I was getting myself into when entering the tent for the show. Was this going to be an all-in audience participation interactive sex education class? Well hey, at least it might differ from my awkward High School health classes where we were taught about sex with cat cartoons. No, I am not joking, I really wish I was! Nevertheless, I thought it would at least be an experience.
To my relief, I soon learnt 'Erotic Intelligence for Dummies' despite how it may sound was not an educational step-by-step on how to be sexually savvy. It is, however, an entertaining one-woman comedy cabaret show by comedian Helen Cassidy.
Cassidy's show is interesting from the very beginning, with Cassidy ensuring you are nice and cosy, ensuring you fill all the gaps between yourself and the stranger sitting next to you. Once sitting down she explains that you are now most likely touching the person next to you, an intimacy you may not otherwise have had but surely yearned for.
Cassidy, an award-winning actress and clown, couples her skills with such pizazz to create an entertaining show which poses the question "Are humans really destined to have monogamous relationships?". Cassidy tells her story with the use of bedtime stories, puppetry, song and dance while bringing some fun facts about the animal world into the mix.
If you couldn't guess it from the title, this is a show for adults so leave the kiddies with Granny Sue and get ready for some mild nudity, strong language and hilarious sexual references. But before you think you are in for a relaxing night of humour, you may not get off (excuse the pun) so easily as the show includes some audience participation.
Cassidy can sure put on a show and definitely knows how to impress her audience with some fine balloon skills, however, you may leave questioning the innocence of stuffed animals, and what love really means to us today.
