I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

On the way to Mine Bay, pre-pizza drinks are offered, the skipper gave a short commentary about the lake but mentioned that the afternoon cruise was a more relaxed affair. The pizza was then served as well as more drinks.

On reaching the carvings, we spent a bit of time slowly cruising past so that all passengers could get a good look and take close up photos. Standing over 10 metres tall, the carvings were created in the 1970s by artist/sculptor Matahi Whakataka-Brightwell and took over three summers to complete.

The Ernest Kemp
motored away into another sheltered bay so that other cruises could get a view then the chance to swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Taupo was offered. A few adventurous souls took up the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The return trip was the chance for a tea or coffee and have a chat with fellow passengers and the cabin crew.
A Cocktail Cruise on the Ernest Kemp is a very enjoyable relaxing way to explore some of Lake Taupo's attractions.
