Linden New Art at 26 Acland St, St Kilda will play host to a FREE art exhibition presented by Perth-based artists Erin Coates and Anna Nazzari. Dark Water exhibits from 4 May to 23 June 2019 from 11am to 4pm each day. Drawing on their combined research into cephalopod anatomy, maritime history, ocean mythologies, psychogenesis and the experience of deep-sea divers, it examines the psychological thresholds and the limits of the human body in relation to oceanic environments.
A new short film by the artists will also be exhibited. This was shot partially underwater using submerged sets, as well as works on paper, silicon and ceramic sculptures and scrimshaw (etched whale teeth). It centres on the nature of human grief and personal transformation in a strange waterlogged architectural space underpinned by the Australian Gothic in cinema.
Erin Coates is a visual artist and creative producer working across film, sculptural installation and drawing. Anna Nazzari focuses on the investigation of mythological tales, superstitions and unusual events and her work is often painstakingly made and combines old world skills with contemporary art processes.
