Fine dining for everyone
Fine dining has long been the preserve of the wealthy, with full service and wine priced out of the range of most, but not anymore – Era Bistro offers all the atmosphere, service, food and wine choice of a traditional fine dining restaurant but make it accessible to all discerning diners.

I had the pleasure of attending a friend's 50th birthday dinner at Era. The venue offers a huge number of spaces including bistro, alfresco, private spaces and The Pod, a detached cocktail venue. We were dining in the Circa Room for our degustation experience.

For those, like me, who had no real idea of what degustation means, it is
a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company" (thanks Wikipedia!).

In a nutshell, we were served Era's 'Discovery Menu' – a 5-course selection with our waiter matching wine to each course.

The Autumn menu includes seared scallops and smoked ham mousse served with samphire & piquillo peppers, accompanied by a 2012 Maris Picpoul de Pinet; Pittsworth quail with a 2009 Kilikanoon Prodigal Grenache; and Black Angus beef fillet, served with 'truffled potato' and wild mushroom fricassée. The wine was Brothers in Arms Shiraz 2007 Langhorne Creek, SA.
A cheese platter was followed by strawberry terrine and basil chiffon sponge but the "course" that caused the most discussion was the palate cleansing Lychee and Tarragon Sorbet – unique, refreshing and delicious.

Coffee and tea rounded out the evening, approximately 4-hours of well-paced dining, wine explanations and food courses.

The 5-course degustation menu was $90 per person for food and those choosing to include the well matched wines paid an extra $45.

Era Bistro has a number of menu options including breakfast, lunch and function menus with prices ranging from around $10 and the brand new a la carte menu launched on May 7

Era Bistro was a fabulous discovery and I look forward to returning again to sample more of their food and very agreeable service.
