New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.

EQually as cool as the Lounge next door
The newly opened EQ Bakehouse is located in the Equinox Business Park in Deakin, less than 10 minutes south of the CBD. It is located next to the EQ Lounge, a fancier establishment next door and both owned by the same company.
With the two businesses side by side they have the long lunch covered in the Lounge, as well as a "quick bite to eat" enjoyed next door at the Bakehouse.
Situated opposite Canberra Private Hospital amongst several office buildings and only a few blocks from the Royal Australian Mint, these modern and relaxed eateries are a surprise amongst the concrete, urban landscape.
The Bakehouse is a sunny spot to sit and enjoy the delicious baked goods on offer. It has outside tables and chairs as well as planter box timber bars and modern stools to take in the sun.
There are also several tables inside, where you can view the Baker at work through the window. Whilst we were there he was efficiently working away making a variety of sweet and savoury scrolls. With deft hands and a smile through the window, he was interesting to watch and see the effort put into the beautifully presented finished products.
Whilst there we tried the large handmade sausage rolls ($5) and vegetable frittata ($6.50) which were both delicious and full of flavour. It is always enjoyable to eat handmade food where you can see all the ingredients and you know what it is made from. The sausage roll was full of flavour with visible carrot and herbs and the frittata was chunky and jam-packed full of vegies for a healthy lunch.
After you have finished, why not have a wander next door to check out the EQ Lounge, still just as popular four years after opening. The large outside area is a shady haven with hanging plants and speckled light creating a relaxed environment. It is open Monday to Saturday for Breakfast, Lunch and coffees as well as Friday night drinks with tapas and live music.
The inside is a cool place to escape the heat with pressed metal on the walls, hanging plants and even a funky scooter by the door. This Lounge is busy with long corporate lunches, groups of friends from local offices, couples meeting for a quiet lunch and it is a relaxed environment for a drink or two after work on Fridays.
Their Modern Australian menu suits most tastes and has a Specials Board to get your mouth watering. See their website for Menus.
If you are south of the city and looking for either a bite to eat from a delicious and modern Bakehouse, or after something a little fancier from EQ Lounge, then these two establishments will be the perfect hidden surprise in the Equinox Business Park.
