One of the various eating outlets at Canberra Outlet Centre, EQ Bakehouse is where shoppers can enjoy a good range of homemade meals prepared with fresh and local ingredients. It proved to be quite popular, attracting a crowd of a decent size when we visited.

Their Thai Grilled Chicken Salad had slices of chicken of a good size that had a good amount of char on them. The herbs used to season them gave them an Asian flair. Grated carrot, beansprouts and snowpeas in the salad added a bit of crunch and the oriental dressing gave the dish a typical Thai flavour. Completing the dish was Thai basil and a sprinkling of fried shallots for additional crunch.



As its name suggests, the Chicken Po-Boy Burger is inspired by the American sandwich of the same name. The Southern fried chicken had juicy flesh and a flavoursome coating. Apple coleslaw complemented the chicken nicely and chipotle aioli added a slight spicy taste to the burger. Accompanying it was a serving of chips that was not over-salted.



For those looking for a quick eat, the cafe offers a selection of cakes and pastries alongside their menu offerings. The size of the Sausage Roll is suitable for a single diner and the pastry was crisp and light. We liked that the filling still retained some texture and was seasoned enough to impart a delectable savoury flavour. As expected, the tomato sauce was provided with the Sausage Roll.



The Carrot Cake available during our visit was moist and not overly sweet. Chopped walnuts were mixed throughout it for extra texture and some crunch, and the cream cheese icing helped to balance the cake's sweetness. Completing the presentation was a topping of a larger chunk of walnut.



The cafe's relatively central location within Canberra Outlet Centre makes it a convenient eating stop for shoppers looking for a bite to eat. Due to its popularity, arriving early is advised to avoid having to wait long for a table.
