A family friendly pub with pelicans & a Ferris Wheel
The Entrance Hotel is a popular pub, bistro and accommodation, located on the scenic waterfront area at The Entrance, just over 1.5 hours north of Sydney. This iconic pub was built in 1927, which provides an interesting history and "feel" to this unique and striking building, which sits proudly overlooking the water. Although it has been restored over the years, you can still admire the original features outside the building and picture what it would have been like, to sit and have a beer there in the 1920s.
It was the tallest building in the area when it was built and - as you can imagine - the most popular place in town. It is still just as popular today...

On our family's visit to The Entrance Hotel, we walked into the renovated interior, which was fresh, modern and inviting. It was also air-conditioned - which made it a welcome relief to walk into on a hot summer's day.
As we walked around to explore, we were impressed by the range of seating areas to choose from - whether you want to sit in an armchair with a glass of wine or sit down and have a meal with friends, there was something for everyone. There was an undercover area out the front of the pub, a small meeting area inside the entrance, a dining area in front of the bistro and separate dining upstairs, overlooking the outside beer garden. If you are looking for a beer garden to spend your Sunday - you can't beat The Entrance Hotel for ambience and a family-friendly vibe.

On our visit, we met up with friends, had a drink and a game of Jenga in the beer garden, then went inside and enjoyed lunch in the dining area overlooking the beer garden.
There was only one word that came out of all our mouths as we ate our lunch - "yum"! We started off with a delicious garlic bread to keep us going and then when our buzzers sounded, we went and collected our meals from the bistro. The process was quick and easy and we settled in for a relaxing lunch with cold drinks, good food and good friends. If you have kids, they will also be impressed by the kid's meals, activity books and ice-cream. See the full menu here. Take your appetite!
Smaller meals - Garlic Bread ($8), Salt & Pepper Szechuan Squid ($17), Kids Meals - Chicken Schnitzel and chips, with ice cream and activity book ($13)
Once you finish your meal, you could easily spend the afternoon relaxing with a few drinks and listening to the live music on offer. If you have kids, however, there is a lot of fun things to do just outside the hotel - so they will be pulling your arm to get out there and explore it! A short distance from the pub there is a historic carousel, a large playground, a colourful waterplay area, Ferris Wheel and a range of amusements - which are open every weekend and school holidays. If that's not all, there is also the popular Pelican Feeding at 3:30pm every afternoon. There was so much to do, we could have stayed all afternoon.
The Entrance is the ideal family day trip from Sydney - why not hop in the car and take a drive this weekend? I can guarantee - if you were like anything like us - you won't want to go home!
