Once again, Canberra will become alive with Enlighten Festival 2020. The city will shine bright with culture and creativity as the city hosts some of the best events of autumn and perhaps some of the best events of the year! This year Enlighten will be made up of a number events including the amazing Illuminations, the Canberra Balloon Spectacular, Lights! Canberra! Action!, Symphony in the Park, Canberra Day, and the signature HIT 104.7 Skyfire.
For 11 days between 28 February and 8 March, the Parliamentary Triangle and some satellite sites will shine brightly after dark with colourful projections. Parliament House, the National Library of Australia, the Museum of Australian Democracy, Questacon, The National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia will all be covered with beautiful large scale projections from 6pm each night. In addition to these stunning projections, there will be amazing roving artists, live bands and enchanting performances!
Lights! Canberra! Action!
Lights! Canberra! Action! is back again for its 17th year and again it will screen the top twelve finalists of the competition. Each year filmmakers are given a list of ten items to include in their film, and more importantly, only ten days to shoot, edit and produce a seven-minute film exploring a theme. Lights! Canberra! Action! will be held in the Senate Rose Gardens at the Museum of Australian Democracy on Friday 6th of March from 7pm. With the winners announced after the screening, it makes for a great evening of movie watching.
Canberra Balloon Spectacular
Every morning from the 7th to the 15th March, balloon enthusiasts will ready their balloons for the annual Balloon Spectacular. The pilots will start to ready their ballons on the lawns of Old Parliament House from 6:15am before taking off into the skies. The sky will then be filled with over 30 colourful balloons from around the globe. With such a beautiful sight, the best place to view the balloons will be on the lawns on Old Parliament House.
Symphony in the Park
The Canberra Symphony Orchestra will be performing at stage 88 on Sunday the 8th of March from 7pm. The orchestra will be performing a new interpretation of music we all know and love. So sit back and enjoy the music in the open air and a beautiful location!
This year, on the 9th of March the city of Canberra turns 107! To celebrate the big day there will be local musicians, street food and more in the Parliamentary Zone. With the event starting at 2pm and going to 7pm and filled with activities as well as music there is sure to be something for the whole family!
Lake Burley Griffin will once again light up on Saturday the 14th of March, with the annual Skyfire! Since 1989, Skyfire has been lightening up skies with an amazing light display on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin, and this year will be no different with a 20 minute display accompanied by a soundtrack from HIT 104.7. So make an evening of it and before the fireworks, find a perfect spot along the banks and grab something to eat from one of the food trucks serving up snacks and meals!
