Enlighten Festival will be returning again in 2021, albeit a little different to normal. This year unfortunately there will be no SkyFire or Night Noodle Markets, but there will also some new events to take their place. Events during Enlighten include:
Instead of the traditional night noodle markets there will be enlighten alley, which will be showcasing local street food, with the exact vendors yet to be confirmed. But if Canberra food scene is anything to go by, there will be something for everyone! The event will be running from 26 February - 8 March with two sessions each night at 5:15pm and 8:15pm.
One of my favourite things about enlighten has always been the Balloon Spectacular. This year people will require a ticket to view them from the white lawns, however, if you miss out on tickets there are plenty of other places to see them around the lake! Lennox park, Regatta point and by the National Library are just some of the locations they can be viewed from.
The most iconic part of Enlighten, the illuminations will of course be returning this year. The projections will be shown from 26 February - 8 March at the Australian Parliament House, National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, Museum of Australian Democracy, National Gallery of Australia, and Questacon.
Lights! Canberra! Action!
On Friday 5 March 2021, the 18th annual Lights! Canberra! Action! will be returning but to a new location - Stage 88. Each year ten short films will be selected after directors are given ten days to shoot, edit and produce a 7 minute film.
From the 5 - 14 March, the Australian National Botanic Gardens will hosting an after dark event. Each night will be a unique sensory experience which will include illuminated live dance, music and spoken word. The evenings will center around the idea of the volatility of the natural world. Tickets are $45 for adults, $29 for kids and $125 for a family of four.
A new event this year is the Enlighten Titan, which the Royal Australian Mint is running. Aimed at kids 4 to 6 years, kids will learn all about the robot Titan before creating their own robot artwork. This event will be on 27 February and 6 March, and will cost $6 for an adult and child.
Symphony in the Park
Another classic will be returning this year with Symphony in the Park at Stage 88 on 7 March at 6:30pm. The Canberra Symphony Orchestra will be joined on stage by BABBA, to perform ABBA's greatest hits together.
Luminous – Lights, Camera, Paint!
This is a new event that will be 11 March at the Canberra Glassworks. This will be a photography class using long exposure photography to create photos that capture hand held lights and movement. Tickets $11 each.
