This could conceivably be one for the 'boys' in the household, when
Queensland Air Museum presents its collection of historic operational aircraft engines at the
Engines Alive Day in an exciting display of aviation horsepower. Can you imagine the sounds emanating from a 1500 horsepower 14 cylinder radial engine powering up?
The museum's operational engines and aircraft cover a range of engine designs dating from the 1940's. Visitors for the day are encouraged to inspect the engines between runs and talk to the volunteers who did the restorations.
Queensland Air Museum's Operational Engine and Aircraft Collection consists of engines ranging from 40hp to 1 500hp, which includes a fully operational CAC Wirraway aircraft. A selection of the Collection will feature in each run-up display to provide a good cross-section of aero engine types.
Engines Alive should be a memorable experience for the whole family to participate in (unless, of course, Mum needs to do a bit of shopping and decides to drop Dad and the boys off). Feel the noise, hear the power at three stipulated times during the
Engines Alive Day when a variety of engines are run:-
11.00am; 12.30pm and 2.00pm
Why not make it a family day out, there will be loads to do including WW2 jeep rides, a BBQ sausage sizzle
all day, hot and cold drinks plus the fun of inspecting all the aircraft and related displays.
Gates are open from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with the three engine run times (see above) and all for a very reasonable price:-
Adults $15;
Concession/Student $10;
Children $8; and
Family Pass $35 (two adults and three children)
Where else will you find a full day of family fun for only $35? And, Mum…it will work out far less expensive than a shopping trip.
