Located in one of Melbourne's best-kept secrets, the Rathdowne Shopping Village in Carlton North, entering endota day spa is like stepping out the urban surrounds and into your own little slice of paradise.
endonta day spa, Carlton North
The day spa offers all the expected treatments, such as remedial or relaxation massage, body exfoliation, cocoons and wraps as well as age-defying facials, hydro-microdermabrasion, spray-tan lashes and waxing. The spa can also cater for hens and large groups is requested.
Upon entering the spa, you are greeted by the very friendly receptionist and escorted to a small yet comfortable waiting area. If there was one thing that I would mark endota Carlton North down for, it was this waiting area. Unlike the luscious waiting rooms of other dayspas and regional spas, this was more of a glorified hallway. The receptionist passed by me to get to other rooms about eight times while I was waiting. Not her fault, just bad design.
I opted for an hour full-body massage and mini manicure on this occasion. My therapist was lovely and took the time to read the areas of attention I had marked down on the standard form. The massage was both relaxing and worked out all the kinks and knots I tend to develop in my shoulders and back, primarily from bad posture. Its funny, you never realise how tense the muscles in your palms are until someone is giving you a hand massage.
Following the massage I was left in my relaxing position on the massage table, all wrapped up in deliciously scented moisturiser and towels while the therapist went to work on my nails. It's been many years since I have had a manicure and the therapist did a great job of pushing back and cutting off the overgrown cuticles to make my nails looks polished and somewhat human again. The therapist also kindly asked if I wanted to get dressed before she put on the polish – to make life easier. Greatly appreciated!
Overall the treatment was everything I wanted it to be, relaxing, quiet and effective. I have had issued in day spas before were therapists talked too much for me to relax and many ask a torrent of questions about my tattoos. Not here. I put it down to the location. With the inner north home to a large section of the gay, lesbian and artistic communities, I'm sure the therapists at endtoa Carlton North see a lot of heavily tattooed, body piercing and overgrown cuticles. The location and demeanour of the staff also mean that men should feel just as welcome here as women.
The day spa delivers well with the space it has. Regional spas are able to create a full experience, with water displays overlooking zen-inspiring landscapes. City day spas do not have this luxury, however endota make up for this with expert therapists, a non-chatty vibe to counteract the city outside and above-all, the convenience of being a stones-throw from the CBD.

Overall an enjoyable and relaxing experience. I managed to make the ten-minute walk back to my apartment after the treatment last over half an hour, as I slinked back, smiling at children and stopping to smell the roses. A good massage is like a good yoga class, it can change your mindset and make life seem so much sweeter.
