End of the Line's 'Intermission' - The Incomplete Review

It seems I don't need to be asked twice to go to Belgrave or the Sooki Lounge for some entertainment. So far they have delivered! My introduction to and experience with both suburb (it seems so crass to call Belgrave just a suburb as it's teeming with artistic delights) and venue has been filled with pure enjoyment of what's been on offer. My maiden voyage was with hillsceneLIVE #2 when a few of the performances were held at the Sooki Lounge . I can't wait till when the next hillsceneLIVE #3 event is at our doorstep. It's on the 5th of December, so make sure you get your tickets soon as spaces are limited.

As arranged I caught up with Eva the organiser of the Belgrave South Community Market (her next Christmas market is on the 7th of December 2014 and she's got Optimus Prime and Ironman as her special guests so come on down. I'll be there for sure), but as it turned out I met several people there that I knew. I almost felt like a local.

You may be aware that 'Intermission' is a 'bite size' portion of entertainment, a taster of what's to come in the future major End of the Line Festival . It's the fundraiser to ensure that 'End of the Line' lives on! The brainchild of CJ , Brent and local creative genius Joshua Collings . With 'the Hills' abounding with so many artistic people, musicians and creative talent, they saw a need for something to bring the artistic community together. A place that's a melting pot for creative juices to flow and combine and for performers and the public to connect. Their creative vision of what 'The Hills' could be, an awesome party town instead of a sleepy town has grown since the first End of the Line Festival was launched in 2012. With an immense amount of team effort and priceless volunteers the inaugural event featured more than 40 musicians over 5 stages, their talent and time donated for a greater cause; the sharing and celebration of the arts. Over 200 artists participated in 25 exhibitions. In 2013 the festival grew to a whole new level and brought over 10,000 people to the Hills. In 2013 EOTL was joined by Kathleen (Snowy) Snowball and along with CJ became the Directors of Intermission and EOTL. Brent and Josh were no longer involved but Brent took on the job as graphic designer this year.

The main co-ordination crew this year consisted of CJ, Kathleen (Snowy) Snowball, Mel Moldrich , Gareth Hart , Justine Walsh and of course all of this wouldn't have been possible without all the wonderful volunteers! However to keep breathing, EOTL needs a lot of help from supporters and fundraisers like this 'Intermission' event. All of the above mentioned are 'creatives extraordinaire'. You only need to check out their Facebook pages to know that you are looking at musicians, jewellery makers, performers and so on. Hence it's no surprise they are the ones who have taken on major roles to ensure this creative vision is realised and keeps on growing.

Tonight's event was packed with entertainment. There were performers both upstairs and downstairs (The Rabbit Hole) running simultaneously plus face painting, a photo-booth, a merchandise counter, many costumed individuals and Sooki Lounge's wonderful morsels to eat and of course drinks. There was a special End of the Line food menu of Elotes (chargrilled corn with chilli mayo and Parmesan), 3 Mix Taco (veggie, chicken & pork), Nachos, Veggie Paella, Chicken & Chorizo Paella and a Dips Plate (thats what I had) ranging from $5 to $14.50 which was very reasonable.

There was music by Justine Walsh & Friends, Brooke Russell & Friends, Carolyn Oates, Ben Kelly, Alex Legg, Stewart Kohinga, Brian Baker, Doc White, Lance Peele, Saturn 3, Daisy West, Spasm, Mayfield, Alex Elbery & The Strangers, The Sooki La La's and Mr Eeezel.

The exhibiting artists were Shelley Krycer, Ken Taylor, Lynette Forrest, Nadia Turner, Georgia Matthey and Christine Lawry with 'live' painting by Rohan Meinhart. There was also a collective consciousness exhibition with multiple participants, details of which were displayed with the exhibition. I call this the Incomplete Review because I left at 8pm (it started at 3pm) as I only bought the day pass, but for those who bought the whole shebang, they'll be partying till 3am. I have no doubt the rest of the night's entertainment will not disappoint.
