Hear about the new Advance Care Directive Act, and discuss issues and other documents required for making your future health and life choices known.

New legislation has now come into force to guide people in making life choices.



What is an Advanced Care Directive?
%%An advance directive is a legally binding document that gives directions about the medical treatment you want, or do not want, towards the end of your life, if you are no longer able to make or communicate decisions yourself. Only people over 18 years of age can make advance directives.

For the advance directive to be legally valid, the person making it must have the mental capacity to complete the document and understand the consequences of their decisions.

This public lecture will take place at the Effective Living Centre in.
Wayville.

The Effective Living Centre is a community partnership organisation and an integral part of Christ Church Uniting, Wayville.

It is open and available to people of any social, political or religious stance.

It has a number of activites available including Positive Parenting, Social Issues and concerns, Sacred and Creative explorations and Mindfulness.



The session on End of Life decisions will have a number of speakers.

Julie Redman will talk about Life Planning Issues and all the various legal documents with a focus on wills.

Margaret Brown explains how one new document replaces 3 current ones, and will discuss giving instructions about wishes regarding healthcare and lifestyle if one loses the capacity to decide.

Louise Finnane will describe the Biography Program she initiated with volunteers recording key life experiences for palliative care clients.

This is for everyone and not just for 'seniors', because accidents happen.
