What is an Advanced Care Directive?
An advance directive is a legally binding document that gives directions about the medical treatment you want, or do not want, towards the end of your life, if you are no longer able to make or communicate decisions yourself. Only people over 18 years of age can make advance directives.

For the advance directive to be legally valid, the person making it must have the mental capacity to complete the document and understand the consequences of their decisions.
