Ice sheets & plane wrecks at Bells Rapids
It is nearly the end of first term and the downpour on Good Friday created an opportunity to get the kids outside, relieve the stress of schoolwork and take a mindful bushwalk once sunshine finally returned. Bells Rapids in the Swan Valley created a spectacular setting for the walk; having greedily feasted on the Autumn rains, the river was swollen with gushing white water.

Armed with a camera phone, the boys began to 'notice' their surroundings; finding delight in the river, trees, rocks and noticing colours, textures and patterns. All the while, we listened to the water and the parrots in the trees overhead.

Our 12 year old took these photos and noticed:

That white water foam looked like ice sheets;

groups of rocky outcrops in the river;

the splashes as pebbles, thrown from the river's edge, 'plopped' in;

patterns and textures in the rocks;

a gnarly tree stump which looked 'a bit like a crashed plane';

leaf litter under the trees by the river's edge;

miniature landscapes created by puddles (lakes) left by the rain;

where a fire had been; and

the peacefulness of Bells Rapids.

Relaxed and a tiny bit tired, we happily returned to camp, knowing that the April holidays are just around the corner.
