On entering the store, intoxicating scents of lemon and eucalyptus lure the visitor to investigate further. I find delicious-smelling soaps adorned with uniquely-crafted tops that resemble chunks of mountain ranges or white chocolate cake.
I purchase a slice of Australian Sunrise soap in delicate blends based on olive oil. On the shelves, jars of balms have soothing herbal fragrances. I toy with the idea of needing one for an imaginary future health need.
The lady behind the counter is also the consummate soap and candle maker. She tells me the store has been open for one month. You can find her in Shop 5 of the Chronicle Arcade, Margaret Street. The arcade itself appears to be enjoying a kind of revival with several intriguing new stores.
Open Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30am weekdays and 10:00am on Saturdays.
