One of my favourite things to do when exploring a new town is to indulge in some quiet time strolling around local parks and gardens. is one such place that we recently explored on our last trip to Burnie in Tasmania.

This unassuming garden is home to 22,000 rhododendrons and other select plants set among 11ha with a series of "countries" from which the wild rhododendrons originate, within authentic built environments.

Although our visit didn't coincide with the 'peak' rhododendron flowering time, which is between mid-September to mid-November, we were fortunate enough to have the garden all to ourselves on a lovely autumn afternoon. As stunning as the gardens are at this time of year, I would love to go back and see it in full bloom!

In the garden, you will find an array of lakes, bridges, arches, walking paths, seats, picnic areas and much more. If you love photography then you will find that this garden will keep rewarding you with every twist and turn in the path.

"The was started in 1981 by members of the Australian Rhododendron Society, North West Tasmanian Branch and is now an independent, non-profit organisation. Most of the development has been achieved through voluntary effort by members, and has attracted international attention over recent years." - Quote from the website .

A quick google on Trip Advisor has the Rhododendron gardens currently ranked in 2nd position of things to do in Burnie with a rating of 4.5 stars from 132 reviews.
