Forming in 2010, Empire is a dynamic collaboration of five talented young men. Leading them on their highly successful musical journey is Ryan Thornicraft on vocals with Ash Sinclair (Bass), Sid Pattni (keyboards), Tom Drouet (Drums) and Nick Pontin (Guitar) bringing their own imperative contribution to the band.
After two years of immense success, their popularity amongst people of all kind has increased exponentially. However, it has recently been announced that lead singer Ryan Thornicraft has made the difficult decision to leave the band. Ryan's leadership, talent and stage presence will be hard to match and I think we can all agree that this is extremely sad news; I'd like to wish Ryan the best for his future and hopefully see him back with the band one day!
Being a regular attendee at Empire's gig at The Aviary on Thursday nights, I can confidently say that live music is well and truly alive. Each week is still a new experience and the venue itself is relaxing and welcoming; being offered a blanket whilst sipping on a cocktail and admiring the city view, it can't get much better. The band still keeps it fresh and creates a great atmosphere consistently and would highly recommend that you go see them because, let's face it, what else is there to do on a Thursday night?
However an event I would strongly endorse is the finale show on August the 25th at The Ellington. It's a small New York style jazz bar in the city and offers a more intimate and electric vibe to the audience. I've seen Empire and various other bands play there and as you enter through the wooden doors you effectively enter a new realm. The dark ambience, mystery and talent that are always contained within those walls promises a fantastic new experience. Similar to The Aviary, The Ellington caters to different crowds and is a great place to meet new people! Different bands perform every week and being Ryan's last show this is guaranteed to be a sold out performance.
The cohesive nature of the band will ensure their continued success and with a new lead singer soon to be joining them, the sky is the limit with this must see band. Empire will carry on luring unsuspecting Perth citizens (like myself) into the incredible world of music.
