Great Southern Nights is a NSW government initiative to bring live music back to theatres in a COVID-safe way. Emma Pask and friends made a joyful return to the Civic Theatre on Friday, November 13. Matt Jeffs performed a mellow pre-show set at the Civic Bar from 5pm prior to opening for Emma Pask at 7pm. Civic Digest cafe was open for pre-show dining, COVID-19 sign in was enforced and the seating was physically distanced.



Emma has an amazing voice and one could really appreciate her excitement about returning to live performance. She is a very unselfish performer allowing the talents of her fellow musicians to shine. It was obvious that the group had a long history of playing together and incredible respect for each other's musical talent. The show featured a variety of music including sultry Latin rhythms, improvisation and swing. The highlight for me was Emma's duet with Phillip Stack on the double bass. Kevin Hunt on piano and Timothy Firth on drums completed the quartet.



This show was an uplifting joyous celebration of music and the return of live performance.
