The Emma Hack Art prize is one of the highlights of the Adelaide Fringe. It is an acquisitive art prize of $5000 and is open to all South Australian based artists from any discipline. This year, artists contributed work within the theme of 'Humanity in Nature' and to support this theme 15% of the sale price will be donated to Trees for Life.

Not to be forgotten, is the People's Choice Award which is a $2000 prize in which people are encouraged to vote for their favourite piece on show.

This exhibition is from March 3rd until the 29th, with the official opening on the 11th at 6pm.

Here are some of my favourites from the field of finalists.

Thom Buchanan's work is exquisitely beautiful. This stenciled streetscape/ landscape features bold shapes and unique textural qualities. I have admired Thom's work at the recent street art festival at Port Adelaide and was wonderfully surprised to find his work in this exhibition.

This impressive photograph hints at the interaction between man and the environment. A stunning piece filled with bold colour and rhythmic elements.

Peter Syndicas' sculptures are centred around sticks and twigs that resemble the human form. This work is nicely balanced with clean edges and tidy lines. I stood in front of this one for quite some time admiring the shapes. It simply dances for the viewer and is a must see.

These three are just some of the 36 finalists. You can view and vote for your favourites on the Emma Hack Prize website.
