So next year, Wellingtonians can lose themselves in their music - Eminem is coming to town!
The rapper has announced he and his group will perform at Westpac Stadium on the Wellington waterfront on March 2 - it will be his one and only New Zealand show - in a move labelled as an entertainment coup for the city by the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA).
It comes after big international stars like Ed Sheeran, Pink, and Adele bypassed the capital city for shows in Auckland and Dunedin instead in the past couple of years.
Eminem's visit is apparently the 2nd instalment of his Rapture tour, which came to Auckland in 2014. The other guests in the line-up will be announced very shortly.
WREDA's performances and venues general manager Warrick Dent said he expected an attendance by about 40,000 people, with an estimated 20,000 out of towners.
Eminem is a huge name in the music business and has a massive following here in New Zealand. There will undoubtably be a demand for accommodation, but many will stay with family and friends. Wellington will cope and it will be busy down town.
Warrick Dent couldn't put a figure on the economic boost to Wellington from the concert, but with the thousands coming it will undoubtedly impact positively on the local economy.
It really is a coup for Wellington City and Westpac Stadium. The latter has hosted shows from AC/DC, Keith Urban, Guns N' Roses and Elton John in recent years.
It will be the biggest show at Westpac Stadium to date. While it is massive to not just host an artist of the calibre of Eminem, but to secure one show is even greater. The organisers are still finalising the stadium's design for the concert.
