It's not everyday you come across a authentic quality cafe in a Queensland country town. Who would have thought? Emilia's Cafe is located on Mary Street in Gympie and has been operating for 11 years. The decor is warm and inviting with an art deco feel, and the food is something very, very special.
I ordered the stuffed tomato with chicken and avocado. Around the edge of the plate were thinly roasted slices of sweet potato with dollops of fresh pesto. Adorned with gorgeous nasturtium's, these guys know how to create a masterpiece on a plate.
The dessert (almond cake) was also delicious and the latte - perfecto.
Over lunch, there was a steady flow of customers arriving and I began to see why Emilia's have such a following. The food is very impressive, and priced a little more than your normal cafe, but this is no normal cafe. This is a piece of authentic Italy in downtown Gympie.
All the cakes are home made and you get the distinct impression that it really wouldn't matter what you chose, it would be good. I'm looking forward to finding another excuse to visit Gympie very soon. They also had a range of various tea's on sale. Everything about this cafe was quaint, homey and the kind of place you could easily waste a couple of hours reading the paper in a quiet corner.
Before you leave, buy a bag of their special roasted coffee. Bellisimo!
